Reconsidering the Segment: Challenges for Audiology in Modern Australia CPDONLINE103

Details

Session Overview: Speech perception assessments in audiological practice have largely been focused on words and segments (consonants and vowels). Much of the research on the phonetic and phonological properties of language, on the other hand, is focused on the ways that sounds are organized, represented and processed at different levels of structure. In this presentation, we will look at some important properties of the speech signal that may be better analyzed by looking beyond words, consonants and vowels, and discuss the implications for audiological practice in Australia today.
