Session Overview: Transitioning from university to professional practice is a significant step for emerging audiologists. In independent practices, hiring decisions carry substantial weight, as employers invest time, mentorship, and resources into developing new clinicians. This presentation offers an employer’s perspective on what independent practice owners genuinely look for when recruiting graduates and early-career audiologists. Drawing on experience in private practice ownership, clinical work, and audiology education, the session explores the qualities, attitudes, and professional behaviours that make candidates stand out. Attendees will gain practical insights into positioning themselves as valuable team members, understanding the expectations of private practices, and approaching applications and interviews with greater confidence and strategic awareness.
